celebrate this. 9/3/23

Happy September to you and your lovely spirit 💜

For many of us, back to school time has started, and this is that time of year where it all starts to roll by way too fast — August bleeds into early Halloween decorations, the great annual pumpkin spice debate dominates social media, and before you have time to think about Thanksgiving plans, Christmas lights lasso all the attention.

It’s going to be a blur. I know it. You know it. Every year.

So here we are.

It’s about to get wicked busy, and we can handle it, so long as we balance self care and support each other.

And that makes this little nugget of time we’re spending celebrating and soaking up the goodness all the more important 💖

This week, I want to celebrate one of my favorite sounds in the whole universe — my daughter’s laugh. Specifically as we were riding roller coasters.

Where I live, we have a HUGE annual fair over the first weekend from August to September — it’s seriously epic. And I took my daughter in the afternoon after her first day of school for the year.

She couldn’t wait for it, and this was one of the biggest days of her life: first day of kindergarten AND the fair. At 5, how much better does it get?

And it lived up to all she wanted. We rode so many rides in the kiddie land section, and her favorite are the roller coasters 🎢. And here’s a little secret: if you go on the first day, when there aren’t as many people, the lines aren’t a thing, and it seems like they run the rides for sooo much longer than normal.

As we’re riding this dragon roller coaster, and going around for like the ninth time, the only sound I can hear is her laughing and screaming, and we look at each other, and I’m laughing so hard that my face and belly hurt — like tensing up so hard and can’t stop but it’s joyful hurt — and I swear that the whole world stopped in that moment 🌎

My daughter was experiencing such pure joy and delight — unadulterated by any bullshit. And it was the definition of beautiful.

Writing this, I still can’t wipe the smile off my face. Those are the moments, you know?

Whether it’s seeing your kid experience things that way or anyone you love just being excited about whatever the fuck it is that revs them up, it’s gold 🥇

That’s alive.

And it’s appreciating those moments — recognizing them and honoring them and permanently etching them onto your heart — that can help fill us up when all the rest of the world is whizzing by toward the next year.

So what moments do you want to celebrate this week? What made your heart sing or your breath stop for a moment?

Let me hear all about it with a message or comment 💌

🪄 May this week give us the lens to appreciate how the sun is lighting up the world a little differently this time of year
